Not All Sharks Are Created Equal: The Shark Vertex Review
Have you ever experienced a vacuum that just doesn’t meet your expectations? Our previous vacuum was a midrange model that simply didn’t cut it. Although it cost around $160, it performed better than our old Dyson, yet still left much to be desired. The short power cord constantly got in the way, and the non-powered Lift-Away feature was underwhelming.
After five years, we handed it down and opted for an upgrade—the Shark Vertex. While it isn’t the cheapest model, it’s at the high end of the Shark lineup and features numerous improvements. With a long 30-foot cord attached in a more convenient spot, a powered Lift-Away feature, and a dual roller design that resists tangles, we could see the benefits immediately.
The suction power of the Vertex is impressive. Just one day after a professional cleaning, it revealed a shocking amount of dirt and hair from our carpet. If you have pets, this vacuum doesn’t disappoint! The extra length of the cord is invaluable, making vacuuming a breeze.
The newer roller design is a game changer. It eliminates the need for scissors to untangle hair. The powered Lift-Away allows us to effortlessly clean under furniture without fumbling with attachments. The easy-to-reach power button on the handle adds convenience, and the dual roller design caters to different surfaces effectively.
On the downside, there are some minor issues. The lowest setting can lift small rugs, prompting pause to reset the rollers. The dirt collection bin is smaller, but it empties easily. The powered Lift-Away function can cause some resistance when you pull it back. Lastly, while the hose is improved, it can still tip over if pulled too far away from the base.
Overall, we are thrilled with the Shark Vertex. The new Shark Stratos is similar, but we feel the Vertex is the better choice unless you find the Stratos at a significant discount.
One year later, our love for the Vertex hasn’t faded. It still performs exceptionally well, though we’ve noticed a few additional gripes. The clear window above the rollers gets dusty and is challenging to clean. Removing stuck objects requires some effort as well. However, we’ve found that using the medium speed setting on loose area rugs minimizes snagging.
We highly recommend the Shark Vertex for anyone looking to elevate their vacuuming experience! Enjoy a cleaner home with this powerful vacuum.
